I am Mitra Motamedi, a family physician with a focus on mental health, particularly ADHD care. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a clinical instructor for UBC medical students, sharing my passion for medicine and mental health with the next generation of healthcare professionals.

I received my medical degree in Turkey in 1990 and obtained my board certification in Infectious Diseases in Iran in 1999. I completed my Family Medicine Residency at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2017.

Mental health issues have always been close to my heart and as a parent of a child with ADHD, I know firsthand the challenges and impact of this condition on a broader scale. During the COVID pandemic, I noticed an increasing demand for mental health care, particularly for ADHD and it fueled my passion for advocating for better ADHD care. I’ve worked primarily with individuals struggling with mental health issues, gaining a deeper understanding of the urgent need for comprehensive care. There’s a critical shortage of practitioners equipped to treat ADHD, and I am dedicated to bridging that gap.

I believe that while medication is essential for treating ADHD, it’s not enough on its own. Teaching practical skills to complement care is key to improving the quality of life for individuals and their families. When we treat ADHD, we're not just helping individuals—we're improving the lives of families. By strengthening families, we ultimately strengthen the fabric of our communities.

I understand the complex interplay between ADHD and other mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and autism. I am committed to staying up-to-date with the rapidly evolving fields of neurodiversity, ADHD, and mental health. I also strive to empower my patients with the knowledge and skills they need to take an active role in their treatment

I have over 10 years of experience working in administration within the medical field, including walk-in clinics, hospitals, and multidisciplinary clinics. This diverse background has provided me with a unique perspective—combining the professional insight of working behind the scenes with a deep understanding of the patient experience.

In recent years, I have also worked as a medical and community interpreter, assisting the immigrant community by bridging communication gaps between physicians and patients facing language barriers. I am passionate about ensuring every individual feels heard, supported, and valued in their interactions with the healthcare system.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors, traveling, and immersing myself in a good book.
